Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tantalum ref 14486TR joined the brand’s lineup in 1988 just a few years after AP released the all-gold and all-steel variants. At the time of its release two-tone ref. 14486TR was the first Royal Oak in tantalum (a rare blue-grey metal) to feature a mechanical movement. There were many dial variations all produced by Stern company in Geneva including those with smooth dials and traditional Tapisserie. Regardless of metal finish or dial type each 14486 variant features a 36mm case with a 50-meter depth rating. This case size effectively replaced the 35mm ref. 4100 in the 1980s and has since been viewed as an approachable and modern unisex model.
