Rolex GMT-Master ref 16710 (2000 - 2001) was the second iteration of the series when it came to market in the late 1980s. It replaced the inaugural ref. 16760 and brought with it a sleeker movement and case. This update was important because when the GMT Master II debuted alongside ref. 16760 it required a thicker case to accommodate the then-new independent GMT hand. By refining this feature ref. 16710 became a staple of the Rolex portfolio only bowing out in the 2000s to make way for the first ceramic bezel models. The iconic pilot's watch sports a black bezel to match the dial a design set many collectors are after. Produced in the early 2000s this example also features Super-LumiNova and a high-beat movement with hacking seconds and a Quickset date.

Rolex GMT-Master II ref 16710 (2001 - 2002) was integral to the evolution of the collection because it introduced the famous pilot's watch to a slimmer more comfortable case. When the GMT Master II first came to market it featured a newly independent GMT hand which at the time required a thicker case and movement. Reference 16710 changed all that and became a fixture of the Rolex catalog for years. Several iterations are available on the secondary market today including the black bezel Rolex for sale here.
