Rolex GMT Master II was initially a product of the marking the first time a steel and gold Rolex GMT had been outfitted with a ceramic bezel instead of aluminum. It is also the last time a two-tone GMT has ever had an all-black ceramic bezel; the current production lineup only features two-tone bezels. Ref. 116713 was also among the first models in the 6-digit series ushering in a new-style "Super" case with broader lugs and larger crown guards and a modern Maxi dial with larger hour markers and hands. It's a history-rich watch with immense wrist presence.

Rolex GMT-Master II ref 116713 (2006 - 2007) was the first two-tone model to sport a ceramic bezel; previously the iconic pilot's watch was outfitted with an aluminum bezel. With this upgrade comes a different bezel mounting that operates on 24 clicks instead of 120 and a lustrous and much more resilient ceramic "Cerachrom" insert. When Rolex introduced the first 6-digit generation it also upgraded the crystal with an anti-reflective Cyclops magnifier and outfitted the watch with a then-new caliber 3186 movement with improved anti-magnetic properties. This model has since been discontinued in favor of the current 1267XX generation making it desirable among collectors.

The dial also received an upgrade and includes larger "Maxi" hour markers and hands and a striking green 24-hour hand and GMT logo. This example is presented in a combination of Oystersteel and 18 karat yellow gold which was recently discontinued within the collection.
