Ceramic Tachymetric

Rolex Daytona was the first yellow gold model to sport both a ceramic bezel and a rubber - aka Oysterflex - bracelet. The road to this contemporary configuration began in 2015 when Rolex unveiled its proprietary rubber strap made from high-performance black elastomer within the Yacht-Master collection. Ceramic bezels were added to the mix just a year later on the stainless steel edition of the iconic chronograph.

Rolex Daytona.  Rolex celebrated of the Daytona  by completely overhauling the entire collection introducing us to a brand-new movement (caliber 4131) and making several seemingly small albeit important upgrades to the case bezel and dial.  Most notable is the bezel which is now trimmed in Everose to match the case a move that will help protect the Cerachrom insert from getting damaged.  Rolex also finessed many design elements on the dial to create a cleaner more classic aesthetic.  The hands and hour markers are thinner as are the rings surrounding the sub-dials. Lastly while the newer movement still has a 72-hour power reserve it now sports Rolex's more efficient Chronergy escapement and has fewer components than the previous caliber 4130.

Rolex Daytona ref 116500 (2019) was the first stainless steel Rolex chronograph to sport a ceramic bezel. It was highly anticipated leading up to its debut in 2016 and remained one of the most sought-after Rolexes during its production on the retail and pre-owned levels. Now that the watch has been discontinued we expect ref. 116500 to remain a coveted collector's item particularly among those who prefer its design set over the newer model.
